Build the funding brief around the vehicle and the job
Specify the truck configuration, body, age, kilometres and intended work. A refrigerated truck, tipper and long-haul prime mover can involve very different purchase and operating requirements. If the truck needs modifications, separate them in the quote.
A fleet expansion and an owner-operator’s first vehicle also tell different business stories. Explain the contracts or expected work behind the purchase, without assuming projected revenue is guaranteed.
Budget beyond the repayment
- Fuel and other operating costs
- Registration, insurance and required inspections
- Servicing, tyres and unexpected repairs
- Periods without work or with the truck off the road
- Driver or owner-operator costs
Used trucks and final payments
For a used truck, collect its service history and check condition independently. Compare its likely working life with the proposed finance term. A low purchase price can be offset by maintenance and downtime.
If there is a balloon payment, plan for it from the start. Future resale value and the ability to refinance are uncertain, so neither should be treated as a guaranteed way to settle the final amount.
What to prepare
- Vehicle specification and supplier quote
- Kilometres, condition and service history if used
- Contracts or a realistic work forecast
- Operating budget including maintenance reserve
Common questions
Can a private-sale truck be considered?
Some providers consider private sales, with additional checks. Confirm requirements before paying a non-refundable deposit.
Can a trailer be part of the same purchase?
It may be possible, but identify each asset and price separately so the proposal can be assessed.
General information only. Product terms and availability vary. Check the actual proposal and obtain advice appropriate to your circumstances.
